Behavioral health and peer-support professionals collaborating around a table

About Perspective

A different perspective on how people and professionals move forward.

Perspective brings together practical, person-centered counseling with a belief that clinical professionals and peer supporters can work in collaboration - not competition. Based in Dayton, Ohio, Perspective offers in-person counseling and assessment services in the Dayton area, telehealth services for individuals throughout Ohio, and consultation and training for peer-run and behavioral health organizations seeking thoughtful, recovery-oriented ways to strengthen peer services.

About Perspective

Perspective - Peer and Clinical Alliance was created around a simple idea: sometimes progress begins when we are able to look at our experiences, challenges, and relationships from a different perspective.

For individuals seeking counseling, Perspective offers a supportive and practical approach to therapy that focuses on understanding what is happening in the present while helping people identify realistic ways to move forward. Therapy may incorporate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy depending on the individual, their goals, and what is most helpful to them.

The goal is not to tell someone how to live their life or assume that one approach works for everyone. Instead, counseling provides space to slow things down, look at situations differently, identify patterns that may no longer be working, and build practical strategies that support wellness, stability, and meaningful change.

Clinical and peer support: collaboration, not competition

Perspective also represents another type of change in perspective: how clinical professionals and peer supporters can work together.

Peer support and clinical services do not need to compete with one another. When their roles are understood and respected, they can complement one another in powerful ways. Peer supporters bring lived experience, connection, hope, advocacy, and recovery-focused support. Clinical professionals bring assessment, therapeutic intervention, treatment planning, and clinical expertise. Strong programs recognize the value of both.

Perspective provides consultation and training to organizations interested in developing, improving, or strengthening peer-support services while maintaining the integrity of the peer role. Training and consultation may include appropriate supervision of peer supporters, ethics and professional boundaries, documentation, role clarity, integration of peer services into clinical environments, recovery-oriented practice, engagement strategies, program development, and practical approaches to building collaborative clinical and peer-support teams.

About Everett Davis, MSW, LSW, LICDC

Perspective was founded by Everett Davis, MSW, LSW, LICDC. Individual counseling is provided under the clinical supervision of a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), consistent with Ohio counselor and social worker board requirements.

Everett has been in long-term recovery and has spent most of those years working in peer recovery support. For the past five years, he has also served as a State of Ohio peer-support facilitator, helping prepare and educate others entering the peer-support profession.

His professional experience has included direct peer support, peer-support training, program development, supervision, behavioral-health leadership, and clinical counseling.

Over the past two years, Everett has also practiced as a therapist. Moving from peer support into clinical work required learning a very different way of helping people. Peer support often encourages appropriate use of lived experience and mutuality. Therapy requires the clinician to create space for the individual’s experience without making the conversation about the clinician.

That difference has become one of the parts of therapy he values most.

Everett enjoys listening to people, understanding how they see their circumstances, and helping them explore new ways of approaching the challenges in front of them. His counseling style is conversational, practical, collaborative, and focused on helping individuals identify their own path toward wellness rather than prescribing what that path should look like.

The same philosophy guides Perspective’s work with organizations: respect the expertise that different people bring to the table, understand the boundaries of each role, and create environments where clinical professionals and peer supporters can work in collaboration rather than competition.

Centered on Well-Being. Guided by Perspective. Strengthened by Alliance.
